From Dubai to Mauritius: Sue & Norma's Adventure of a Lifetime
On a dreary afternoon I received the news that I had won a holiday competition, courtesy of Prestbury Travel. My initial reaction was disbelief, but when I recognised the Prestbury number, my doubts vanished, replaced by sheer excitement. The prize? An all-expenses-paid trip to Dubai and Mauritius!
Prestbury Travel took over all the arrangements and a few weeks later, my flights and accommodation were all arranged and, with my friend Norma, we embarked on this incredible journey together.
The Opulence of Dubai
Arriving at Dubai Airport was like stepping into another world - a futuristic maze of buses, trains, and planes. Thankfully, our prize included a fast-track service with a clipboard-toting guide, who whisked us through.
Entering at The Royal Atlantis was an extravagant experience, stepping into a cooled dramatic space with orchids and exquisite décor. The concierge couldn’t have been more helpful and when we saw our sea view 28th floor room we were delighted. After a long journey, we collapsed onto our mega-comfy pillows, exhausted but elated. The view was spectacular, and even the intense heat was invigorating. We couldn't resist a little boogie in the lift on the way to our room!
The next morning, breakfast was extravagant, featuring Eggs Benedict and freshly cooked salmon. That evening we ate dinner at the Greek restaurant overlooking the water, watching the sound and light display which was delightful. The shooting fountains of fire, light and music was a night to remember.
During the day we wandered around the hotel and also visited Atlantis The Palm, sister hotel to Atlantis The Royal, where we took the opportunity to watch the dolphins performing impressive flips and twerks. We also took a day trip to Abu Dhabi, visiting the incredibly beautiful mosque where the Italian marble floors adorned with intricate floral patterns, and the stunning chandeliers left us in awe.
The Paradise of Mauritius
Our departure from Dubai was as smooth as our arrival. The Emirates chauffeur whisked us off to the airport, and our flight to Mauritius was comfortable, with a glass of champagne to top it all off!
Arriving in Mauritius was like stepping into paradise, and the drive to the hotel was incredibly scenic with tropical palm trees, birds singing, and pleasantly warm temperatures. We were greeted at Paradis Beachcomber Resort & Spa by the General Manager and we were thrilled to discover that our room had been upgraded to a sea view! The room was nothing short of delightful, and the sound of the waves combined with the twinkling lights of the resort made for a perfect setting.
The staff at the hotel were always willing to go above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We dined at the main restaurant, where the food was not only varied but also beautifully presented and delicious. While the hotel has a lovely pool area, we preferred the beachfront and often took leisurely walks to sister hotel, Dinarobin, where we could enjoy dining and coffee as well. The resort even offered electric buggy rides, which were a great convenience for those who needed a little extra help getting around.
Each day in Mauritius brought new adventures. We explored the hotel grounds and took long, sun-soaked walks along the beach, despite a few humid rainstorms and some close encounters with coconuts! We explored the local art gallery, indulged in nightly rum cocktails and met fascinating people. Dinners were filled with laughter, cheeky but charming waiters, and delicious food.
As our trip drew to a close, we soaked in the last rays of sunshine, cherishing every moment of our unforgettable journey. The warmth and beauty of Dubai and Mauritius had left an indelible mark and we couldn’t have asked for a more incredible experience, and we owe it all to Prestbury for making it possible. Soon, we were back in the UK, bringing with us the memories and stories of a holiday we’ll never forget. Until the next adventure!
